For some reason Im struggling with this entry tonight. I had so much to say about the Rae Carruth verdict (18 to 24 years, sentenced today)—I made some notes about how I hoped it might help lay the groundwork for a new movement, one to abolish professional football. To get somewhere from there, I heaped up some broken language about how Id been using the Carruth trial to distract myself from the political system ever since Gore conceded—here I considered admitting that I was relieved to be free of his meddling, movie-star-friend-seeking daughter, at least. In passing, I mentioned how Id voted Green and had leafleted for Nader (granted, in Park Slope, Brooklyn, where he was ahead). Then I was going to describe the single meeting of my local Greens which I have since attended, and my abrupt departure when I realized that one of the young men to whom Id taken an immediate dislike had raised his hand to say something self-justifying.
